Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10 percent of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not. Content is skewed by the lack of representation from women – especially women of color.

Let’s change that.

Join us at the American Craft Council Library for an evening of communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to gender, art, and feminism.

We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, and refreshments. For the editing-averse, we urge you to stop by to show your support. We invite people of all gender identities and expressions to participate, particularly transgender and cisgender women.

After an evening of editing, take advantage of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association First Thursday open studio event for nearby studio and gallery tours.

Other details:

  • Who should attend: People of all gender identities and expressions. We welcome both novice and experienced Wikipedians; no experience is necessary.

  • The event is free, but we do ask that you register.

  • Please bring your laptop and power cord (a limited number of computers will be available), and ideas for entries that need updating or creation.

  • Please create a Wikipedia account before the event

  • Also: Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Safe Space Policy.
