Fourteen major artists—including Ai Weiwei, Nicholas Galanin, Sonya Clark, and the Slavs and Tatars collective—contribute rugs to this show. They range from exercises in formal beauty to works that take on cultural, gender, and racial stereotypes, demonstrating the continuing relevance of this 2,500-year-old craft tradition to today’s aesthetic and political concerns.
