Katrina. Sandy. Harvey. Irma; the nameless, countless fires, tornadoes, and earthquakes. Laura Petrovich-Cheney finds meaning within these devastations and the debris that litters the affected communities. The once-organized neighborhoods become only recognizable as piles of rubble haphazardly distributed during the chaos of the storm.
With the debris from Sandy and other disasters, the artist creates quilt-inspired sculptures. This exhibition evokes an element of refuge in the organization and arrangement of the chaos, as the artist reestablishes the rubbish in a series of recognizable patterns.
