"A Tradition of Excellence: Japanese techniques in contemporary metal arts" will feature the work of 22 Japanese artists, including two of Japan's Living National Treasures. The exhibit will also include six American and Japanese American artists who have studied and adapted the Japanese metal techniques into their own studio practice. The exhibition will promote cultural heritage, share skills associated with traditional craft, and encourage respect for the wealth of knowledge and skills being transmitted. Beyond intercultural dialogue, the exhibits will also promote intergenerational dialogue as the next generation of Japanese artists balance traditional techniques with contemporary interpretations. Curated by metalsmith and HYART gallery owner Hiroko Yamada.
