Lauren Fensterstock: Some Lands Are Made of Light

The five sculptures on display here, which take the form of lotus flowers and suns, and sparkle with quartz, natural crystals, glass, chandelier parts, and antique beads. They’re essentially 3D mosaic mandalas, sacred visual symbols of the universe, rooted in Fensterstock’s meditation practice and the imagery of the Avatamsaka (Flower Ornament) Sutra, one of Buddhism’s richest and most complex scriptures.
