Kristina Fjellman makes her intriguing, ethereal pieces by sewing beautiful papers and fabrics around various wire shapes, then forming them into richly textured wall hangings and lanterns. Her work is soft but sturdy, celestial with a hint of the industrial — the still-visible wires keep her pieces from looking too fragile, though they maintain a compelling grace. Fjellman’s fibers are expertly chosen and combined, with shiny, lacy, and metallic pieces sprinkled precisely throughout. I love the way Fjellman awakens a traditionally muted color palette with hints of brightness, and I’m particularly fond of Equinox, her newest wall hanging (pictured above) — its rainbow progression is subtle and natural, but bright and contemplative too.
