What's your company name? Storey Design

What's your favorite design tip?
Don’t be afraid to let rooms breathe and enjoy the spaces in between. I like to begin a design with high-quality pieces that can stand on their own and don’t need a lot of accessories in order to shine. I let that guide me and then add layers of texture as needed.

What color did you choose and why?
Blue. As a designer, I'm very focused on creating soothing interiors and spaces that can serve as oases to recharge from the increasingly hectic world we live in. Blue does that more effectively than any other color.

What’s your vision for the space?
A monochromatic blue living room. The right mix of blues can really bring a sense of sophistication, playfulness, and joy to a room, which is the balance I’m always looking to achieve when working with clients. With this space, I’m hoping to show people how multidimensional a single color can be.

Who are your ACC show artist picks and why are you featuring those particular objects?
I’m drawn to simplicity and organic materials. All of the artists I’ve selected show high quality craftsmanship and mastery of their materials  – wood, clay, or paint.

  • Steven Skinner’s ceramic teapots and large bowls are incredible – both for their use of color and functionality.
  • Neal Devore’s wood sculptures are perfectly worked, so that they feel unassuming yet sophisticated, and I love the fluid, organic, and sculptural quality.
  • Eileen Goldenberg’s plates speak for themselves – one-of-a-kind works of art. And guess what? They are blue.
