The cutting table is the place of force where my designs begin and evolve. Originally a clay artist I cut fleece as I would clay slabs. Each garment predicts the next. The impulse is sculpture; the challenge is the changing American body. My garments change size by a button shift and have become more open and flowing. Now in my 7th decade I view clothing in its primary purpose - as armor against exposure. Individually cut and sewn, they hearken back to the cave, the tundra, and the theater.
