Position summary.
The American Craft Council (ACC) will contract with four Regional Craft Correspondents to help illuminate the diverse, place-based traditions that define craft in America. This paid, yearlong opportunity is designed for artists and makers who are deeply connected to their local creative communities and eager to share their stories with a national audience. From historic practices to innovative contemporary work, correspondents will help uncover the people, materials, and movements that make their regions unique.
Correspondents will collaborate with ACC’s storytelling team to develop monthly features, regional news items, and event highlights that celebrate the richness of handmade artistry across the country. No prior journalism experience is required—just a strong passion for craft, a curiosity about and belief in community, and an enthusiasm for storytelling. Together with a group of craft columnists (ACC’s Craft Coalition) and the organization’s in-house storytelling team, the chosen correspondents will help amplify the voices of makers everywhere and help shape a broader, more inclusive narrative of American craft.
Help tell the story of craft in America.
The American Craft Council (ACC) is looking for four artist correspondents to help uncover and celebrate the diverse, place-based craft traditions that define our country.
This is your opportunity to share the stories of your region and community—its makers, materials, traditions, businesses, organizations, and events—with a national audience through ACC’s revamped website, craftcouncil.org.
Whether you’re a woodworker in Wyoming, a weaver in Appalachia, or a metalsmith in Maine, we want to hear your voice and your perspective on what makes craft throughout your respective region unique.
About the Project
ACC’s Regional Craft Correspondents help us pursue a world where objects matter, makers thrive, and craft connects, through storytelling and community. As part of our growing network, correspondents serve as on-the-ground voices from across all 50 states, illuminating the incredible range of American craft and the makers who shape it—from traditional practices to cutting-edge contemporary work.
Stories and news created by these correspondents illuminate what’s happening now in their unique regions of the craft field: the trends, news, and developments shaping the community, from contemporary makers to small-batch manufacturers and local arts hubs. The stories are intended to respond to current issues, offer insights readers can apply, spark curiosity and joy, and connect established and emerging generations within the craft world.
Together, these correspondents position ACC as a national convener for makers, artists, and craft enthusiasts—shining light on the full, diverse, and evolving landscape of American craft.
