About this opportunity

Mamá Papaya is seeking a grant writer to support our organization’s long term growth. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, collaborative, communicative, and aligned with our mission to nurture underrepresented storytellers and filmmakers.

This is a remote, flexible contract focused on writing 1–2 grant proposals during an initial trial period, with the possibility of continued collaboration after. You’ll work closely with our leadership team to draft and refine proposals that reflect Mamá Papaya’s voice and vision. Each proposal will be reviewed internally before submission.

Responsibilities

Writing grant applications.
Collaborate with the team to align proposals with Mamá Papaya’s mission and storytelling approach.
Edit and finalize proposals based on internal feedback.

Qualifications

Experienced with writing grants or fundraising materials (preferably in the arts or nonprofit sectors).
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with BIPOC-led arts organizations or community-centered initiatives is a plus.
Excited about supporting an intentional and community-based organization grow long term.

Compensation

$600 per completed grant proposal, plus a bonus if the grant is awarded:

Up to $10,000: +4% of awarded amount
$10,001–$25,000: +3.5% of awarded amount
$25,001–$50,000: +2.5% of awarded amount
$50,001+: +2% of awarded amount
