About this opportunity
The Ely Folk School, located in Northern Minnesota, is seeking craftspeople to teach with us! We welcome applications from all types of creators with a focus on folk art, fiber art, and metalworking. Our instructors are motivated, passionate, and eager creators that are excited about both making and sharing. Experienced educators make excellent instructors, but our staff are also available to help people who may have a deep wisdom with their craft but no formal teaching background. Classes with the Ely Folk School are tailored to each instructor’s strengths and specific craft, with flexibility in schedule, class length and timing, and class size.
We are looking for instructors with an ability to tailor instruction to multiple skill levels, and have the patience and enthusiasm to work with beginners. The Ely Folk School believes in intergenerational, non-competitive, learning for life. Our students are inquisitive and eager, and are connected and inspired by our local wilderness, community, and neighborly, hardworking, do-it-yourself atmosphere.
Instructors are independent contractors with whom we split class fees 50/50. We work with instructors individually to develop a course outline and curriculum if needed, market your class, provide administrative support (class registration, collecting tuition and material fees) and day-of support.
