The copper sculpture Shared Passions (2022) is the product of our two-decades-long relationship with the brilliant Atlanta-based artist, educator, and collector Kevin Cole. But the connection to Kevin started long before the three of us became friends. George was first introduced to Kevin’s artwork during his BFA studies at Howard University in Washington, DC, in the late 1990s. He later met Kevin during an interview for a graphics instructor position at Westlake High School in Atlanta. George was offered the job, and 20 years later, he still works at Westlake in the art department that Kevin built.
But it wasn’t until we (Esohe and George) met in 2009 that George’s connection with Kevin really clicked and blossomed into the relationship we all enjoy today. When referring to our marriage, Kevin often says of George, “He got the right one.”
As a couple, we have spent countless hours soaking up knowledge from Kevin—taking direction and absorbing insights on how to manage George’s career as an artist and educator, how to shape and grow our art collection, and how to be good stewards of the art we collect by supporting the local creative community.
