Thank you, Joanne Smith
Recognizing ACC’s outgoing Advertising & Sales Manager of 14 years.

The day-to-day work of the small but dedicated team behind American Craft is largely invisible to our readers. In September that team changed significantly with the departure of Advertising Sales Manager Joanne Smith, who retired after 14 years with the American Craft Council and 41 years in the advertising industry.
Joanne saw ACC evolve in many ways during her tenure, which she measured in American Craft issues—78 of them, counting the one in which this article appears. Of her many experiences at ACC, the most indelible was also one of her earliest. Describing ACC’s Baltimore show in 2011, Joanne said, “I saw so many wonderful artists. Their work was breathtaking. I was overwhelmed with the energy and the beauty. I met many people who shared their story of attending every year. I was impressed by our loyal following.”
Joanne’s mix of business savvy and a passion for craft— she grew up with an extremely creative mother – made her a great fit for her role at ACC. “My favorite part of the work was seeing artists and advertisers grow their business, and hearing their stories,” she said. “I would like to say thank you to all of the members and advertisers that I met over the years, and to the current and past ACC staff and trustees. I am grateful for the pleasure and privilege of working with you.” Thank you, Joanne, for your dedicated service to ACC and your many contributions to American Craft and the people we serve.
Before you go!
We believe that making creates a meaningful world, and we hope you do, too. Deeply researched and impactful journalism on the craft community is in short supply. At the same time, being featured in a national publication can have a major effect on a maker’s or artist’s livelihood, particularly those who are just starting in their career. You can help support our mission and the work of makers around the country by becoming a member or by making a gift today.
Thank you!
