Hands-on Houston: 25th Birthday Celebration

This September, HCCC turns 25! Join us to celebrate our milestone birthday at this month’s Hands-on Houston with our favorite activity: making with our community.

Since no birthday celebration is complete without candles and cake, we’ll be making our own! Using simple hand-rolling techniques, participants will make their own beeswax-rolled candles. Candles can range from a single taper, a couple of short and skinny candles, or even a set of birthday candles. Personalize your candle by adding a design using colored beeswax. This introduction to candle making is perfect for all ages and skill levels.

The 25-minute activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. All participants will receive a commemorative HCCC birthday pin, and the first 200 will receive a slice of birthday cake!

While at HCCC, visitors can also explore the resident-artist studios and A Material Inheritance, a new exhibition examining the cultural, material, and symbolic histories of silver and its role as a generational heirloom. Be sure to stick around after HOH for a very special curator-led tour of the exhibition from 3 to 4 p.m.
