Workshop: Traditional Cobalt Underglaze Techniques with Yunting Li
Greenwich House Pottery
New York, New York
October 24, 2026
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the timeless beauty of traditional blue and white porcelain through the use of cobalt underglaze painting techniques. Drawing inspiration from both Chinese and Japanese porcelain traditions, students will learn how to create elegant brushwork, expressive line quality, tonal variation, and decorative motifs on porcelain.
The workshop will cover essential techniques including brush control, line drawing, flooding, and traditional shading methods, while also introducing students to my signature approach to porcelain painting. Participants will complete and decorate their own porcelain piece and gain practical knowledge they can continue applying in their own ceramic practice. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced ceramic artists interested in expanding their surface decoration techniques.
