Glenda Arentzen Portrait

Born in 1941 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Glenda Arentzen is a studio goldsmith based in New York City. She creates jewelry using a wide array of traditional techniques and materials – always with a mind for the future wearer of her pieces. She has designed works for production with manufacturers, including Steuben Glass and Reed and Barton. Arentzen completed her BS at Skidmore College in 1962, and her MA at the Teacher’s College of Columbia University in 1964. She also studied metalworking in Denmark as a Fulbright scholar and worked as a studio assistant for ACC Fellow Adda Husted-Andersen. After completing her studies, Arentzen taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology for several years while continuing to build her studio practice. She is represented by the Aaron Faber Gallery in New York City and continues to make one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces that marry functional wearability and artistry. She has lectured and exhibited widely and is the three-time winner of the Diamonds International Competition (1967, 1968, and 1973). In 2012, she was selected by the Smithsonian for an oral history interview for the Archives of American Art. Arentzen was elected a Fellow of the American Craft Council in 2008.
