Video: Craft and the Hand Salon Recap

Community members gathered at the American Craft Council library in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District earlier in March for lively discussion and the first installment of the spring Library Salon Series. Jennifer Komar-Olivarez, associate curator at Minneapolis Institute of Arts, discussed her exhibition "Craft and the Hand: From Visible to Integral" with Monica Moses, American Craft's editor in chief.

They contemplated the tough questions: Are decorative arts and craft the same thing? Does something need to be functional to be considered craft? Who in their right mind would use a robot and a chainsaw to create art on a lathe? Who paints their foot stools fuchsia?

Join us for the next salon, "Curating Your Life," on April 12, with guests Gabe Weisberg, Harriet Bart, and Marybeth Stalp. And mark your calendar for the May and June salons, too.

This activity is funded in part by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 2, 2008.
