If you wanted to create a national publication about the diverse maker movements taking place regionally, nationally, and even internationally, what would it be? What would it look like? What would you write about? Who would your writers be? Rose Slivka, the longtime editor of Craft Horizons, once explored those same questions that we’ll be re-examining tonight in the context of craft’s impact in contemporary American life.
The American Craft Council’s senior director of programs and public engagement, Scott Pollock, will facilitate a conversation on the history and future of writing and publishing on craft. Featured speakers include Marilyn Zapf, assistant director and curator at the Center for Craft in Asheville, North Carolina; artist Tetsuya Yamada; writer and publisher Brenda Tran; and American Craft’s interim editor in chief, Megan Guerber. When you come, be sure to check out the exhibition-related reading room in the gallery, which features vintage editions of Craft Horizons from the ACC Library.
