Julie Hanus

Julie brought more than a decade of experience in the media to her role at ACC. Prior to joining the Council, she worked as an editor at Utne Reader, a cultural digest of the alternative press, where she produced feature packages on diverse subjects such as workplace culture, attention, loneliness, food justice, and fear. She also profiled visual artists including David Maisel, Favianna Rodriguez, and Chris Jordan, and judged the Independent Press Awards, an annual competition of the nation’s top independent publications.

As senior editor of American Craft, Julie worked across the magazine, from developing story ideas and writing artist profiles to proofing pages and coordinating production schedules. Her beats are ceramics, metal, and publications, but she enjoys all corners of studio craft. She holds a BA in English literature from Macalester College.
