American Craft Council’s Inclusion and Equity Statement

American Craft Council’s Inclusion and Equity Statement

American Craft Council’s Inclusion and Equity Statement

The American Craft Council is committed to justice, inclusiveness, and equity. Drawing on craft’s rich legacy of openness and its deep roots in all cultures, the Council will work to create opportunities for creative people from all walks of life.

This statement was unanimously approved by the American Craft Council Board of Trustees on June 5, 2017. Its adoption concluded months of work, research, and discussions among our trustees and leadership staff. We understand the importance of embedding this statement throughout our organization and our mission. We are committed to its implementation, and we will hold ourselves accountable.

To obtain the long-term results we desire, we recognize that this is an ongoing process – one that includes education, outreach, and forward-thinking. We may ask for the advice and opinions of others as we work through issues and develop programs. We are committed to making this statement central to the work of the Council.

ACC’s work in this area is more important than ever. There are too many issues today that drive people apart. The work of creative communities helps all of us see what we have in common.

I hope you will join us in our efforts.
