Jorge Daniel Veneciano, Director of Museum of Arts and Design, Resigns
Citing recent political developments, Jorge Daniel Veneciano – hired as director of New York City's Museum of Arts and Design in October 2016 – has announced his resignation, effective January 31, 2017. MAD's board chair Michele Cohen will serve as interim director.
As quoted in the press release:
Current political events compel me to turn my attention to pressing needs in the cultural sector,” said Veneciano, who is at work on a book about the social relevance of cultural institutions in “securing civility in uncivil times.” “I remain a great admirer of the Museum of Arts and Design, and I am confident that it will be in good hands going forward.
The Museum of Arts and Design was opened as the Museum of Contemporary Crafts by the American Craft Council in 1956. It became a separate entity in 1990 and adopted its current name in 2002.
