Video: ACC Library Salon Series Recap: Guitar Maker Charlie Hoffman

Luthier Charlie Hoffman of Hoffman Guitars

Luthier Charlie Hoffman of Hoffman Guitars.

On October 14 we welcomed guitar maker Charlie Hoffman to the ACC and the Library Salon Series. Charlie is an incredibly accomplished luthier and the owner and co-founder of Hoffman Guitars, located in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. Opened a little more than 40 years ago, Hoffman Guitars has been a staple of the local music scene ever since.

Hoffman made his first guitar mostly for something to do, and he was hooked. He left academia in favor of opening a guitar shop with a friend, which at the time was the only handmade guitar shop in town. After returning to school for a law degree, he built a career as a highly respected lawyer while keeping his guitar shop open. Now, retired from law, Charlie spends much of his time at the shop making beautiful, one-of-a-kind instruments.

If you have not been over to visit Hoffman Guitars we encourage you to make the trip. Talk with Charlie, strum a few chords on one of his magnificent instruments, and soak in all the good vibes that music brings.

Presented by the American Craft Council, the Library Salon Series is a series of free public presentations exploring craft, making, and art.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
