Bailey Aaland moose mosaic

Moose mosaic by Bailey Aaland

Normally our On View display features work by local artists, but from now until the end of August, you'll be able to see a special selection of works by American Craft Council staff members. Learn a little more about what each person makes and what they'll have on view on view in the office, and please stop in and see our work in person if you're in the area.

Work by Rachel, Judy, and Pam

Rachel Kirchgasler, education coordinator

What do you make?
My practice consists primarily of painting and drawing, and my preferred mediums are oils and charcoal. As an art historian, my research focus has always been modern art (late 19th to early 20th century), but my studio practice consists mostly of still-life studies, which has always struck me as an interesting juxtaposition.

What do you have on view at ACC?
A study that I did of Gustav Klimt's Danae while studying in Florence, Italy, in 2006.

Pamela Diamond, director of marketing and communications

What do you make?
Mixed media collage using original photography, graphic scrap, and a variety of print materials.

What do you have on view at ACC?
Kathryn’s Journey

Judy Arginteanu, copy editor

What do you make?
I work mainly in steel. I like to heat up metal and watch as it changes form. Plus, knowing how to weld makes me feel really badass.

What do you have on view at ACC?
I have two pieces on view, both using the trellis as a literal and figurative framework.

Work by Dulcey and Monica

Dulcey Heller, library assistant

What do you make?
I’m a beadworker, enjoying seed beads and a wide variety of stitches and techniques.

What do you have on view at ACC?
On view, I have my Painted Vessel, a self-supporting vessel made of French, Italian, and Czech seed beads approximately 6 in. tall. Also displayed is Necklace, a bead-embroidered collar with Swarovski crystals with the ending (and punch line) of the short story by the same name by Guy de Maupassant.

Monica Moses, editor in chief of American Craft

What do you make?
I make jewelry with beads and polymer clay. I also paint, make mixed-media assemblages, goof around with handmade paper, and dye fabric.

What do you have on view at ACC?
Three small ceramic vessels of a series that I made several years ago. I don't make ceramics anymore because I tend not to have big blocks of time. I mostly make things now that I can work on in 30-minute increments.

Work by Elizabeth, Joe, Michael, Lindsay, and Bailey

Michael Radyk, director of education

What do you make?
My wall pieces and sculptures are made using both hand woven and machine woven textiles.

What do you have on view at ACC?
My work Sow is a woven wall covering produced on the industrial Jacquard loom using recycled, repurposed, and sustainable materials. The weaving surface is hand-cut and sheared after coming off the loom.

Lindsay noble, office coordinator

What do you make?
I screen print posters and a line of greeting cards under the name Edere Press.

What do you have on view at ACC?
I have two screen-printed posters. Both are limited-edition, multiple-color, gradient screen prints, printed on 100-lb Neenah paper.

What do you have on view at ACC?
I've submitted my mosaic moose to be a part of the staff show.

Work by Joe and Rebecca

Joseph D.R. OLeary, creative director

What do you make?
I make portraits. Not your standard commercial, studio portraits, but rather portraits that tell a story or reveal elements of the person. I like creating portraits that hint at what’s important to that person either professionally, personally, or spiritually.

What do you have on view at ACC?
The first is a piece titled Enduring Art of the Pot #I, (the Vermeer series), which I created for Northern Clay Center’s 2015 American Pottery Festival. I wanted to create a series of portraits that felt historical in nature akin to Dutch paintings, which speak of the importance and utility of pottery throughout history. Essentially that works of clay are as important and valuable to our modern life as they were hundreds of years ago. The second image Joe / Jesse, from the series “You.Me.Us.’” is a piece I created in search of finding the “weaving” of a relationship. When two people have coupled-up with each other, what third entity emerges from the relationship? Each person is an individual, but what happens when those two people unite and have been with each other for many years? Do they start to look like each other? Does their relationship supersede their individualism to themselves? To each other? To others?

Rebecca Merrill, development associate

What do you make?
I make lots of things (mostly food), but also paintings and very basic knitted scarves and hats.

What do you have on view at ACC?
An acrylic on canvas. It's a landscape of the sunset over Prague Castle from a picture I took in 1996.

Watch the video below for a look at staff installing the work. We hope you'll stop in and view our pieces between now and the end of August. Get directions and office hours.
