Robotics is increasingly changing our world. While these changes occur in our factories, hospitals and military, the artist’s studio can serve as a novel space to explore these futures. There is something simultaneously perverse yet poetic about digital tools designed to manipulate clay; the material that records the human touch like none other. This workshop will revolve around experimentation and provocation by coupling the ancient material of clay with contemporary tools of robotics and software. Participants will help fashion tools and strategies for collaboration with a robotic arm that will cut, push, and attach wet clay in the service of us as artists. No prior computer/clay skills needed.
