Learn to make a variety of plates, both wheel-thrown and handbuilt, on which the decorative techniques of sgraffito, mishima, and resists will be explored. Create works that transcend their function and become more meaningful through surface treatment.

The first day will begin with demonstrations of construction techniques, including throwing and simple altering on the wheel, using craft foam supports for organic shapes, and simple slab built plates. The remaining days will each focus on different decorative techniques, using short slide presentations of historical and contemporary artists' work, as well as instructor Kristin Pavelka's demonstrations as a jumping-off point.
