Joan Stuart Ross works in a multi layered encaustic technique, often adding objects like shells or bits of lace, creating a translucent surface that is richly textured with depth of color. She incises lines similar to an etching in layers of molten wax or adds objects to the surface, creating a mixed-media collage.

David French has a penchant for populating his work with created objects that are on the verge of being familiar, but yet are unknown; an almost sea urchin, a bifurcated tree branch or a mushroom. Starting with a piece of wood. he builds up the layers of color in an arduous technique until the sculpture is transformed into this almost familiar object.
