As seen in the October/November 2013 issue of American Craft magazine...
Showtime in the South
For this issue, American Craft’s assistant editor, Andrew Zoellner, journeyed to Arkansas to report on the craft scene there for Wide World of Craft. Watch exclusive videos from Zoellner’s trip, including an interview with potter Liz Smith and conversations with Hamid Ebrahimifar, Beth Lambert, and Celia Storey at the Arkansas Arts Center.
Craft Horizons Ahead
Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, this fall the American Craft Council Library is adding the first 25 years of Craft Horizons (now American Craft) to its growing digital collections database, which the public may use free of charge. Additional photos and materials from the groundbreaking 1956 Asilomar craft conference and the 1964 First World Congress of Craftsmen will also be available.
Vintage Photos Reimagined
The ACC’s new Vintage Photo Project features artwork made with photographs no longer needed in the ACC Library archives. Look for the inspiring results created by our participants, starting in late October.
Salvaged Beauty
Earlier this year, wood artist Michael Scarborough [“The Second Act,” Dec./Jan.] wrote a guest blog post on the devastation in his neighborhood after Hurricane Sandy and his commitment to create beauty from the felled trees. In an online Q&A, we revisit Scarborough’s idea and the new work that came out of it.
Savannah Symposium
The ACC’s fall 2013 Making Meaning in the Marketplace symposium took place September 26 – 27 in Georgia at Savannah College of Art and Design.
